Eleven-Year Follow-Up on the Effect of Thermoplastic Aggregates’ Addition to Reinforced Concrete

An experimental investigation was carried out to study the effect of thermoplastics’ addition reinforcement corrosion and durability concrete. A long-term is necessary for final decision on possibility utilization materials, this contributing direction. Two types thermoplastics were used, high-density polyethylene polypropylene. The percentage replacement conventional aggregates 0% 12% by volume. After being demolded cured 7 days, specimens immersed in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution 240 days. Afterwards, they left laboratory ambient air up 11 years. Carbonation depth volume permeable voids determined. Optical microscopy, stereoscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements performed. Results showed that replacing limestone with particular two does not have a negative impact rebars’ behavior. microscopy stereoscopy surface revealed process has initiated carbonation observed all mixes, but rates are negligible mixes studied.
